Post-playtest revisions now live!
This (very nearly!) release-ready version of the game incorporates a variety of improvements. HUGE thanks to playtesters John Ayliff, Burt, Crypt-glitch, Deborah, and John R, for their time and feedback!
(Minor spoilers below!)
- Added several preset name options for the player character as an alternative to typing in a custom name.
- Preset game save names based on story location (act 1, act 2, etc) will now allow for quicker saving.
- Additions to Francesca's introductory dialogue, and into the player's notes, will help prime the player for an investigation that focuses specifically on the opera performance itself — and also reinforce the detail that the tip about the robbery came from a criminal informant.
- At the end of Act 1, the player character's apartment is now described along with a decorative feature on their wall (which differs depending on the player's chosen area of expertise: music, theater, or society).
- Revised Francesca's summary of day 2's schedule to make it more relative to the present, rather than indicating fixed times.
- Removed two of the possible motives that had been available while constructing a hypothesis. This should narrow the available options and help to disambiguate the correct motive.
- Fixed a bug allowing the player to receive hints when they already had the correct hypothesis.
- A variety of minor copy edits.
- Minor improvements to the Javascript web app that runs the game.
Thanks again to the playtesters! The game will be ready for public release on September 1st, 2025.
